Over Population in China and the implementation of Pinyin In response to massive over population in China, the Chinese over has taken drastic measures to reduce the nation’s population. The first step that was implemented was the one-child policy also known as; pinyin. Pinyin is the one child limitation on the majority of families that live in the People’s Republic of China. It is enacted under the official family planing policy. It limits the number of children marries urban couples to have to one. The exceptions only apply to those who are: ethic minorities, rural families who depend on children for farming and, parents without any siblings themselves. The Chinese government has given an official statement saying that roughly to 35 to 40 percent of the Chinese population falls under the one child rule. The higher ups in the government bureaucracy who mostly live in Macau and some parts of Hong Kong are not affected by this policy as well. The policy was brought up by the government in 1978 but, was officially enacted to first-born children in 1979. Like today, China was dealing with many social, economic, and environmental problems. Pinyin was a response to â€Å"alleviate† these problems. Chinese authorities claimed that pinyin has prevented around 250 to 300 million births from the time of its implementation in 1979 to the year 2010(SOURE CITATION).
